Since when did it become cool to slam the Church instead of lovingly bringing about change?
I am not talking about helpful critique for the sake of alteration (this is incredibly loving) - I simply mean, why is it cool to spitefully rock out on the Church?
I can only affirm that this is sinful...

I agree. I listened to a sermon Dr. Jenkins did in Dixon Center chapel last smester i think, and he talked about this a little bit. You should get it from Lee's website, it is very good.
Since Martin Luther did it.
I would venture to say he was used of God to help a little bit...
